Nail and Skin Treatments
Ian’s Podiatry Centre helps people of all ages to treat problems with their skin or nails. Sometimes, toenails are difficult to cut. This is because they’re too thick or because you aren’t able to feel or reach the nails to trim them correctly. Nails can also become ingrown and cause pain. A Podiatrist is equipped with the right tools to cut and treat the growing nails. We can also help those who suffer from fungal infections of the nail. Patients with Diabetes usually require a regular appointment with the Podiatrist to receive regular treatments to ensure the problem doesn’t get worse.
A callus is rough, scaly skin that develops around the feet when touched or under pressure. Corns are tough skins that form a core due to pressure concentrating on a single area, and they’re typically more painful and appear like stones. Calluses and corns could be caused by how you walk or using orthotics that isn’t appropriate for your footwear or medical issues properly.
A common location prone to hard skin development is on the back of the heel. This is most common during the warmer seasons when patients wear shoes with gaps resulting in painful cracks.
Treatment for corns and calluses is typically simple and requires skin removal using sterile instruments. The hard skin can grow in the future, and it is advised to have your feet checked regularly to stay at ease and free from discomfort. It is suggested that your Podiatrist examine the root of the pressure and offer options to alleviate it. The solution could be as easy as shoe suggestions and insoles with modifications or padding, devices for protecting your toes or custom orthotics. They can also provide suggestions on how to care for your feet.
